Venetian painter Giambattista Tiepolo died on 27 March 1770 in Madrid at age 74. One of the most celebrated artists of Rococo Italy, Tiepolo excelled as a draughtsman and fresco painter. He achieved international renown, receiving commissions from Prince Karl Philipp von Greiffenklau of Würzburg and Charles III of Spain. He also worked for confraternities, churches, and many Italian patrons in Venice and beyond, painting mythological and religious canvases and frescoes.
